Fostering gives rescued animals a safe place to heal, grow, and prepare for their forever families. Many of the animals we rescue come from overcrowded shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia.
By opening your home, you are quite literally saving a life and becoming a vital part of each animal's journey from rescue to happily ever after.

WHY FOSTER?
Fostering is a short-term commitment with life-changing results. It’s not a trial run for adoption, it’s an act of love. You’re giving an animal a second chance at life while helping them transition into their future, forever home. We’ll match you with a dog that fits your lifestyle, and our team will support you every step of the way.
Fostering can last anywhere from a few days to several weeks, depending on your availability and the animal’s needs.
FOSTER REQUIREMENTS
To join our foster program, you must:
✅Be 21 years or older
✅Live within NC, SC, VA, GA, TN
✅Ensure all personal pets are spayed/neutered (medical exemptions require vet documentation).
✅Only fostering a dog from Storybook Tails Rescue, as we do not know other rescue protocols
✅Have the consent of all household members & if a renter, the landlord
✅Be available for a phone interview (with any co-foster involved in care) and virtual home check
✅Be able to attend meet-and-greets, adoption events, and vet appointments
(If you cannot drive, you must be available for pickup/drop-off coordination)
✅Be willing to follow our decompression protocols
✅Be willing to crate dogs for safety and structure
✅Be willing to take and share clear photos of your foster dog regularly
NOT READY TO COMMIT TO FULL-TIME FOSTERING?
That’s okay we also urgently need short-term, or fill-in fosters. Whether it’s a weekend, a few days, or a week while another foster is away, your time can make a life-changing difference for a dog in need.
All of our dogs are fully vetted, spayed or neutered, and vaccinated before they arrive in your home.
We know fostering can be both incredibly rewarding and sometimes challenging that’s why you’re never in it alone. We have professional trainers on staff and a dedicated support team to help you and your foster dog succeed every step of the way.
